John U. Varga, M.D.

Dr. Varga is board certified in internal medicine. He earned a B.A. in Biology from the University of Kentucky Honors Program, where he attended on a four-year tennis scholarship. He was elected into Phi Beta Kappa and awarded an academic All-American post-graduate scholarship in 1983. He received his M.D. from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1987. Dr. Varga completed his internship and residency in General Internal Medicine at the University of Louisville, where he became the Chief Medical Resident and Acting Director of Undergraduate Education.

Certified through the American Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. Varga is one of the original founders, partner and member of the executive committee in Community Medical Associates, which specializes in Internal Medicine. He continues to be an Associate Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Louisville.

His appointments have included being elected as the two-term President of the Louisville Society of Internists and serving as Medical Director at Doctors Rehab & Physical Therapy, Hillcreek Subacute Care Unit and Hurstbourne Care Center, Board of Trustees Easter Seals, and University of Louisville Alumni Association.

A member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine, Dr. Varga has authored and published several research articles, as well as written for local fitness magazines, such as Kentuckiana Health & Fitness.

Dr. Varga continues a family commitment to internal medicine, as both his father and older brother are also internal medicine physicians. Dr. Varga continues to maintain an active lifestyle and has competed in several mini-marathons, marathons, duathlons, and triathalons. Dr. Varga and his wife Tracy have one son, Jack.
