Mark R. Wheeler, M.D.
Dr. Wheeler began his medical career with a B.S. in Chemistry from Centre College of Kentucky. He earned his M.D. from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1987. His internship and residency were completed in Internal Medicine at the University of Louisville, where he became the Chief Medical Resident and Acting Director of Undergraduate Education in 1990.
Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Wheeler has been in private practice since 1991 and was a founding member and partner in Community Medical Associates, which specializes in Internal Medicine. He has also been active in teaching as an Associate Professor of Medicine with the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Association and American College of Physicians.
Dr. Wheeler has always enjoyed sports medicine and has maintained this interest through appointments as Chief Physician for the Kentucky Athletic Commission, team physician for World Wrestling Entertainment (formerly the WWF) and is active with the local Jockey’s Association. He has also been team physician for the Louisville Icehawks, Louisville Riverfrogs, Louisville Shooters, and the Louisville Redbirds professional sports teams, as well as for the U.S.A. Amateur Boxing Association.
With numerous honors and awards, Dr. Wheeler was most recently named one of America’s Top Physicians by Consumer Research Council of America. Dr. Wheeler has a keen interest in lipid disorders, hypertension, and preventative medicine.
Dr. Wheeler volunteers his time to Touched Twice medical ministry, which is made up of healthcare professionals that reach out to local underserved areas. Dr. Wheeler grew up in Ashland, Kentucky, where his father was a physician for over forty years. He and his wife Lee have three children, Kacey, Kaylee and Krista.
